COVID-19 Poll Wave 5:

French GP Reaction

20 April 2020

About the poll

General practitioners are an essential line of defense within the healthcare system in the fight against COVID-19 in France as across the world. French GPs are the subject of this poll which has been conducted to research both the diagnoses and suspected infections they have confronted as part of their activity, as well as their morale while faced with current responsibilities.

The study provides results according to the type of consultation (in-surgery, home visit, tele-consultation, and nursing home visits) and according to the severity level of the French regions.

Key Results: April 20th 2020

  • 10% of medical acts performed by general practitioners resulted in a diagnosis or suspicion of COVID-19.
  • The rate of PCR-confirmed diagnoses is stabilising after the strong growth last week.
  • In this context, GPs continue to cope by maintaining good morale.
  • The number of teleconsultations is declining for the first time. The return of patients to the doctor's office appears to be beginning.

Methodology

Information on 2819 medical interactions was collected from 124 general practitioners. The data collected are weighted according to the geographical distribution of GPs in France. The physicians completed a self-administered survey online between the evening of the 20th April and the evening of the 21st April to study a full day of activity.
